We are an authorized U.S. Browne pedals dealer, and $339 is your absolute final/total here, for a brand new Browne Amplification Protein V3 overdrive pedal (with box, etc.). Available here, at this lowest price allowed by Browne year-round. Made in, and for sale in the U.S.

Protein V3 updates include top-mounted jacks, soft switching, and a single internal switch for split mode. The same sound, the same reliability, the same Protein… only better. (See the Q & A below, about Protein V3).

The Browne Protein pedal V3, is a 2-in-1 dual overdrive, all analog and true bypass, collaborated between David Brown and guitarist/producer Adam Sniegowski. After years on the road and in the studio using backline guitar amps that could be very inconsistent, Adam came to Dave, wanting to create a dual overdrive pedal that would sound great with any backline he encountered, so they created a pedal based on the famous UK bluesy Marshall Blues Breaker pedal, plus the legendary "Nashville" pedal, the Nobels ODR-1.

They started out with 2 overdrives that they both loved. Both guitar overdrives stacked well together, but they had a few inherent issues. Dave set out to fix those issues without losing the soul of the original overdrives.

The Blue Side (left side, blues side, has blue light) is based on the Marshall Blues Breaker overdrive used by the likes of John Mayer on the “Continuum” album. Dave addressed the issues, like the lack of output, tweaked the tone control, and experimented to find what they think is their favorite version of this type of circuit, while still being true to its roots.

BROWNE AMPLIFICATION PROTEIN V3 Q & A:

Q - What is the difference between the V2 and the V3?

A - Besides the obvious top mounted jacks vs side mounted jacks, the V3 utilizes soft switching instead of mechanical switching, and there is a single internal switch for split mode. While Browne Amplification worked hard to ensure that the V2 and V3 sound the same, tolerances in parts can at times create minor variations in the “sound” of the pedal.

Q - Which side goes into which on the Protein?

A - Protein's right side (green side) is first, and cascades into the left side (blue side). The blue side has tons of headroom, and also compresses nicely, so it stacks really well with other drives before it. This is why Browne always recommends putting the protein last in your chain of drives.

Q - Is there a way to have both channels turn on simultaneously, via a single switch?

A - You could put the protein pedal in a loop, leave both sides on, and then simultaneously turn both on/off that way.

Q - Is the blue side of the Protein a Bluesbreaker or BD-2 circuit?

A - It’s a Bluesbreaker circuit with modifications and an added output section.

Q - I have a question about the capability of the independent sides of the Protein going into separate loops. It's mentioned on the website that the RJM Mastermind works with the Protein like this. I'm curious to know if this function will work with my BOSS ES-5.

A - It absolutely will!

Q - Does the green side of the pedal pair well with a Tube Screamer, or does it make my beloved TS kind of redundant, and replaces it?

A - Since the green side isn’t really a Tube Screamer (it’s more like a nobles ODR-1) it’s a different flavor than your TS. But Browne loves a Tube Screamer paired with the blue side of the protein! I don’t think you’d find redundancy in having both pedals on your board.

Q - I’m finding the green side very quiet. It’s not really punching my amp until around 3pm on the volume dial. Just wondering if this is normal?

A - The green side is very dependent on the gain knob for its level. If I set it up 2/3rds up on the gain, I have the level below half for unity gain. But if I run the gain low 1/3 or so, I have to bring the level up to 2/3 or 3/4 for unity gain.

Q - What is the power draw of the Protein, and can I use 18V?

A - About 30 mA power draw. 9VDC only please! Browne built it to have tons of headroom at 9V, so 18V is not better.

To use Protein V3 with a loop switcher, like the RJM Mastermind, ect.:

  • The TRS plug on the input is going to act as the loop for the green side.
  • The TRS plug on the output is going to act as the loop for the blue side.
  • Tip is the input/send from your Loop
  • Ring is the output/return to your Loop.
  • There is a switch inside the Protein V3 pedal that needs to be flipped to the “split” position to use it this way. Remove the four screws from the back panel and flip the switch to the split position.

Some Browne Protein pedal reviews from our customers at Reverb:

The Green Side (right side, Nashville side, has green light) was inspired by that classic, famous “Nashville” overdrive, the Nobels ODR-1. This guitar pedal has been used on the pedalboards of session great guitarists, from Tim Pierce to Jerry McPherson. Browne lowered the amount of gain (distortion) to make this drive usable through the entire sweep of the pedal, added some of the mids back to make it not quite so scooped, and eliminated some of the woofiness in the low end. This allows the pedal to add some low-mid “beef” back into your tone without becoming muddy.

The secret “third” channel of this overdrive pedal might be their favorite. When running the green side into the blue of this pedal, you get added gain and fullness, without sacrificing note clarity, or getting that “mushiness” that can happen while stacking some guitar overdrives together.

Power Source (sold separately):
The Protein Pedal V3 does not use batteries, it uses a standard 9 Volt DC, Center-Negative, 30mA minimum power supply (like most all other guitar pedals use). 38mA is the maximum current draw, with both sides on.

Included in Box:
Browne Protein pedal, tote bag, and user guide.

Warranty:
Comes with Browne's 1-year warranty, which covers defects under normal use, using a proper power supply.

Fast paced romantasy you will not want to put down!
Format: Kindle
4.25 stars! I LOVED this book with similar vibes to Hush Hush, Fourth Wing, and The Serpent and the Wings of Night! It was fast paced with easy world building and will keep you turning the pages late into the night because you will not want to put it down! Huntyr is a fierce bad@ss FMC trained to kill vampyres her entire life. She is sent on a mission to go to the academy and earn her spot into The Golden City. Upon arrival, she is forced to room with the delicious fallen angel, Wolf, who is the only one who knows about her assassin identity. The romance, the plot twists, the secrets revealed, the battles, and the tantalizing training scenes had me hooked! And that ending…. I’m holding my breath in need to know hell! Read if you love: 🪽 Fae, Vampyres, Fallen Angels 🪽 Academy setting with magical trials 🪽 Forced proximity and slow burn 🪽 Rivals to lovers 🪽 Hidden identities and secrets 🪽 Tend your wounds “𝘖𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶. Excellent Rivals to Lovers!!
Format: Kindle
The tension and banter between Huntyr and Wold was delectable. I absolutely love the fallen angel and all of his flaws. Huntyr is amazing too being a badass FMC with some major trauma. The world building was great and I enjoyed the training aspect of the story. The writing was immersive and was in the story the whole time. The ending had quite a twist that I hadn’t anticipated and made my jaw DROP. Excellent job! I also loved the narration. Laura is one of my fave narrators!

Fallen Angels, fae, vampires, oh my!
Format: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 | Spice: 2 (but a good slow-burn) • Main Characters: Huntyr and Wolf • I couldn’t wait to read this book; there was so much hype about it! And there was no doubt why. I fell in love with the characters and the plot itself. This book is mainly plot driven more than friction driven but it’s easy to follow along with. The characters are fun, easily understood. The main setting is at an academy where both the main characters are going through trials and building strength for the final test, The Transcendent. There are fantastic side characters as well. I loved the camaraderie between Huntyr and her friends. But we don’t like Lanson. 😆 We do have some plot twists that come into play throughout the book. Secrets and betrayal to be seen. I did adore Wolf and Huntyr’s relationship. It was a classic slow burn trope. They didn’t hit it off fast, but in time their feelings grew. I loved their banter, so sexy. Wolf is your next book boyfriend; Huntyr is your next vampire assassin independent bad-a*s female. Themes include loyalty, trust, self-discovery, a true slow burn romance. Side note: book ends on a angsty cliffhanger! • Emily, thank you for writing this awesome novel and I cannot wait to devour Book 2, Blood So Brutal! 😍 • Happy reading, my lovelies! xo

“My heart bows to you and you only, Huntress.”
Format: Kindle
3.5 🌟 This book popped up in my KU recommended reading suggestions and the synopsis sounded like what I was in the mood for. I'm so glad I took a chance on it. I went into this knowing absolutely nothing about it and ended up really liking it. I love when this happens. The main characters are likeable and I easily found myself rooting for them. There is a mystery element to each of their backstories that I enjoyed watching unfold and can't wait to get more of. Wolf, in particular, has me fixated. Love him. I found this to be an entertaining, addictive read with a plot that moves along at a good pace. It reads so easily I found myself very reluctant to put it down. Lots of twists and turns and the angst is there. A good set up for the next book to come, for sure. My issues with this book....the dialogue feels a bit juvenile at times and there is a repetitive over use of a particular word phrasing that I found myself giving the ole eye-roll to. There are, without a doubt, some pretty cliche moments that gave me a bit of the cringe. I think this could've certainly 100% benefited from more depth regarding the world building. Perhaps the world building was sacrificed to keep the pacing quick? Just a guess. Also, the lack of consistency of character for the FMC was really evident and so she feels quite illogical at times. Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read that hit the spot well enough for me. That ending certainly has me impatiently pining for book 2!

Interesting take on the genre
Format: Kindle
True rating: 3.25 ⭐️ I enjoyed the fresh take on the genre. The best way I could describe the setting and world is an apocalyptic dystopian version of Farie where vampires, fae, and angles struggle to survive in what is left of the world. It was definitely interesting throwing the academy/hunger games aspect into this world as well. Even though I guessed the final reveal early on in the book, I kept hoping I was wrong, and it would take a surprising turn. While the "plot twists" were a bit predictable to me, I still enjoyed the ride this book took me on. Another downfall for me was the plot holes in the world building... I.E. if society has fallen and the world is in the aftermath of war, how are there trains running around the world? Just to take young adults to the trials to get into the golden city? How is the train maintained, the tracks clear, etc? However, I did enjoy the FMC & MMC and thought they were fleshed out nicely. I also enjoyed the side characters but wish some were developed more like Ashalin (sp?). I do find myself rooting for the MCs to succeed and find happiness together, which is obviously an important aspect for romantasy. Overall, was this an earth-shattering, mind-bending, terrific piece of literature? No. But was it the worst thing I've read this year? Also, no. This book has, to me, the bones of a great read & just needs a bit more to push it from an alright book to a great book. Overall ratings: Plot- 3.5⭐️ World building 3⭐️ Spice 2.5 🌶🌶 Main characters 4 ⭐️ Supporting characters 3.5⭐️
